Along the way, the route passes communities such as Alcoma and Hesperides, as well as vanished towns once tied to phosphate extraction and rail transport. Turning south along Walk in the Water Road, the ride skirts Lake Weohyakapka and crosses protected lands including Lake Wales Ridge State Forest and Walk in Water Wildlife Management Area, where pine forests, wetlands, and open prairies dominate the scenery.
The eastern stretch reaches the Kissimmee River and Lake Kissimmee State Park, an area that reflects one of the largest ecosystem restoration efforts in the state. At the entrance to the Three Lakes Wildlife Management Area, the largest remaining dry prairie in Florida, the route turns back, passing communities such as Nalcrest, Lakeshore, and Indian Lake Estates before returning to Bok Tower and completing a circuit that connects geology, history, and natural landscapes in central Florida.
