Route #17 Miami Beach

Miami Beach
This route explores Miami Beach, a narrow barrier island running parallel to the Atlantic coast, known both for its intense urban development and its unique historical and architectural significance. The ride crosses different sections of the island, from residential neighborhoods to well-established tourist areas, following the main north–south axis that connects the entire municipality.

Miami Beach experienced rapid growth beginning in the early decades of the twentieth century, when the construction of bridges, roads, and real estate projects transformed what had originally been a swampy environment into one of Florida’s most iconic destinations. The urban layout and the Art Deco architecture of the historic district reflect this period of expansion and modernization.

Throughout the route, beaches, interior canals, and public spaces coexist with one of the highest urban densities in the state. The ride offers insight into how engineering, tourism, and urban design completely reshaped a fragile territory exposed to natural forces.
