Little Haiti became established during the second half of the twentieth century as one of the main centers of the Haitian diaspora in the United States. The neighborhood is characterized by an intense cultural, religious, and commercial life, and has been the scene of significant tensions related to gentrification and real estate development.
The final stretch toward Miami Shores, a community planned since the 1920s, presents a sharp contrast in terms of urban layout and land use. The route allows observation of how neighboring districts can evolve in very different ways, despite sharing the same metropolitan environment.
The complete route and its historical context are part of Discovering Florida – Volume 1.
