Route #84 South Florida National Cemetery – Sawgrass Recreation Park – Andytown

South Florida National Cemetery
Route #84 covers 83 round-trip miles across the western edge of Palm Beach and Broward counties, following the boundary between urban and agricultural lands and the vast wetlands of the Everglades. The route begins at the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth and travels south along US 441, where farmlands and former agricultural tracts meet expanding suburban communities.

From there, the journey enters Water Conservation Area 1 and the Arthur R. Marshall National Wildlife Refuge, riding along earthen levees that border the marshlands. The route continues through the 2A and 2B sections of the Water Conservation Area, crossing extensive landscapes of sawgrass, canals, and open water that preserve key elements of the original Everglades ecosystem.

The final segment reaches Sawgrass Recreation Park on US 27 and continues to the former site of Andytown, a ghost town removed during the construction of Interstate 75. The route highlights the intersection of conservation, development, and historical memory in one of South Florida’s most altered natural regions.
