The ride begins in Trilacoochee, once a key rail junction, now transformed into the southern gateway of the trail. Along the way, cyclists travel through the Withlacoochee State Forest and ride alongside the river of the same name, moving between wetlands, wide cattle lands, quiet villages, and a few larger urban centers.
Former ghost towns, mining areas, and protected landscapes appear throughout the route, along with Fort Cooper State Park, a historic site linked to the Seminole Wars of the nineteenth century. Forests, lakes, marshes, and gentle terrain combine to make this one of the most diverse and scenic long-distance trails in central Florida.
