Route #100 Jacksonville - Fernandina Beach - Fort Clinch

Fort Clinch in Amelia Island
Route #100 covers 90 miles between Duval and Nassau counties, linking the city of Jacksonville with Amelia Island and Fort Clinch State Park. The route follows sections of the historic King’s Road, a colonial route built by the British before the American Revolution, and crosses lands that have flown under multiple national flags since European arrival.

The ride begins along the Saint Johns River in downtown Jacksonville and moves through historic neighborhoods, former rail towns, and rural landscapes of northern Florida. Along the way, traces of vanished communities, active rail corridors, and natural preserves appear beside rivers such as the Ribault, Trout, and Nassau.

After crossing the Nassau River, the route enters Nassau County and reaches Amelia Island, known as the “Island of Eight Flags.” It then passes through Fernandina Beach before arriving at Fort Clinch State Park, a nineteenth-century fortress set between the Atlantic Ocean and the St. Marys River. From this coastal stronghold, the route turns back toward Jacksonville, completing a journey that reflects centuries of cultural and geographic change in Florida’s northeast.
