Verna was a small agricultural settlement that emerged in the late nineteenth century, linked to citrus cultivation and the arrival of the railroad. Oneco, one of the oldest communities in the county, still preserves part of its historic layout and for decades served as an important community center for the area’s rural population.
As the route approaches Samoset, the landscape gradually shifts toward residential areas and former industrial zones, illustrating the transformation of the territory during the twentieth century. The route shows how communities once separated by fields and orchards have become integrated into a continuous urban fabric.
The complete route and its historical context are included in Discovering Florida – Volume 1.
