Route #97 Lakeport - Brighton Seminole Indian Reservation - Lake Istokpoga

In the Seminole Reservation at Brighton Florida
This 84-mile round-trip route crosses a broad rural corridor between Lake Okeechobee and Lake Istokpoga, moving through the agricultural and ranching heart of south-central Florida. The ride links scattered communities and open landscapes shaped by canals, cattle lands, and vast Caladium fields that supply most of the bulbs sold worldwide.

The route begins in Lakeport on the western shore of Lake Okeechobee and follows the Herbert Hoover Dike and Harney Pond Road, tracing waterways such as Harney Pond and Fisheating Creek. It then enters the Brighton Seminole Indian Reservation, where traditional architecture, language, and cattle operations remain central to Seminole life.

From there, the ride continues into the Florida Heartland, crossing large agricultural tracts and reaching the southern edge of the Lake Wales Ridge, where gentle elevation changes appear near Lake Placid. After passing through Bear Hollow, Parker Island, Highland Park Estates, and Sunvale, the route reaches Lake Istokpoga, one of Florida’s largest inland lakes, before turning back toward Lakeport.
